Enhance your skin's powers at night

Enhance your skin's powers at night

While you are sleeping, your skin regenerates itself and it is the optimal time to benefit from powerful actives such as glycolic and salicylic acids which target skin imperfections and promote skin cell renewal.

What is our Stimulate range?

Our Stimulate range offers powerful acids that work overnight to boost the skin's natural regeneration power at night, harmonize complexion and improve the appearance of skin imperfections.

Once deposited on the skin, they act as biological stimulators to enhance the renewal of newer keratinocytes and cellular matrix. After stimulation, the regeneration of the skin is mediated by the multiplication of the epidermal cells which are newer and healthier. Thus, older cells are replaced by new ones.

What happens to your skin at night?

The circadian rhythm is a natural, internal process that responds to environmental factors over a 24-hour timeframe. It regulates our biological clock via the expression of different genes and has a strong influence on the proper functioning of our organs, including the skin. Skin chronobiology is the term used to describe the science that studies the skin’s natural rhythm.

The skin goes through various phases in the 24-hour cycle. Skin cells can detect changes in natural light and therefore react differently according to the time of day, from the switching on of circadian clock genes at first light to cell division and damage repair at night.

During the day the skin is essentially in a protection phase, defending itself from external aggressions such as pollution and UV rays, but at night it enters into a resting phase, during which it suffers less external stress.

The interphase is the start of a regeneration cycle when skin cells prepare for later cell division by obtaining nutrients and metabolizing them.
This division is known as mitosis, a key process that creates new cells in order to replace old, dead ones. It is a fundamental part of skin cell renewal.

Skin cell renewal is a continuous process whereby new cells divide in the bottom (basal) layer of the epidermis and continue this division as they move up towards the top to form the skin layers. Exfoliating these dead skin cells stimulates the production of new cells.
Several factors may impact this skin turnover process including diet, age, lack of sleep, hormones, stress, disease and sun exposure.

Why is skin cell renewal important?

Skin cell turnover is essential for maintaining the primary function of the skin as an intact organ that protects your body from dehydration. It also prevents signs of skin aging such as wrinkles, age spots, dull complexion, and other visible signs. The body’s natural exfoliation process also helps to prevent the development of acne. This may occur when dead cells are not removed from the skin’s surface, leading to potential bacterial infections and clogged pores.

As we age, the natural renewal process slows down and causes significant changes to the structure of the epidermis: at around 20 years old, it may take up to 30 days to fully complete. Over the age of 50, it can take up to 45 days. It is therefore important to incorporate targeted skincare products into your daily routine to let science get to work with your skin.

How to stimulate this renewal?

Skincare products that resurface the skin’s superficial layers and remove dead cells help to accelerate this process, particularly overnight. When the skin is resting, the cutaneous barrier is more permeable, enabling actives to better penetrate the skin while cell renewal is at its maximum.

Active ingredients such as glycolic acid exfoliate the skin, stimulate the renewal process and enhance the natural regeneration cycle overnight:

They are among the best-known chemical agents to have many benefits. While exfoliating the skin, they have properties that stimulate the renewal process and enhance the natural regeneration cycle overnight.

What are the different exfoliants that exfoliate the skin cell?

Mechanical and chemical exfoliators resurface the skin through different actions.

MECHANICAL EXFOLIANTS

  • Physically loosen and remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface.
  • Can cause irritation when application is too rough and not controlled.
  • Scrubs, face, brushes, sponges.

CHEMICAL EXFOLIANTS

  • Loosen the bonds between dead skin cells to remove them from the skin's surface.
  • May not be adaped for daily use.
  • BHA, AHA, PHA, enzymes.
