What is xylitol? 

Xylitol is a polyol that can be found in vegetables, fruits, and birch bark. It is a highly researched and studied ingredient that has proven to be beneficial to the skin in a number of ways.

How is it efficient on the skin? 

Hydrated skin is a sign of a properly working barrier function to protect the skin against water losses, pollution and other environmental threats and that water reserves are present within the epidermis. The topical application of xylitol helps to maintain this delicate balance between water reserves and water losses, notably by stimulating the production of ceramides and facilitating the movement of keratinocytes.

Maintaining this balance has a dramatic effect on the skin’s appearance, significantly smoothing microrelief, reducing skin peeling and enabling the skin to better protect itself. Several studies have shown that this natural ingredient is non-mutagenic, non-sensitizing and generally very well tolerated by the skin and eyes.
